info
Most cactus are from the deserts of the new world and as such like to go totally bone dry between waterings, making them very low-maintenance. If you see your cactus begin to shrivel or lose firmness, your cactus is likely totally dry and should be watered. To get good healthy growth your plant doesn’t want to sit around totally dried out during it’s growing season. Once it is dry, water it.

This cactus comes from an area with summer rainfall and is actively growing during that time, when it is forgiving of overwatering errors. During winter dormancy it should be kept extra dry and won’t tolerate overwatering.

Remember that if kept in a small pot your plant will want more frequent watering.

Growing Notes

This hybrid is considered more robust and forgiving than its parents.
As it stays small, this is an excellent cactus for pots, where it can live long term and thrive even in a small pot. If you’d like to grow it into a larger specimen up-pot to the next size pot each time your cactus touches the rim of its current pot. This is best done in late spring or early summer when the plant is going into its growing season.
This cactus is easily propagated by cutting off a pup, allowing it to sit for 7-10 days until the cut has calloused and then placing it in a bright warm spot in a well drained medium.
We typically grow these in pots, thought they can be grown in a rockery. Be sure they are given very gritty soil if grown in the ground, where winter rains can linger in the soil.
